WHY FREDDY FERRER

Wed Oct 19, 2005 at 07:21:53 PM PDT

My moment of resolve came Monday at a subway stop greeting commuters, alongside Freddy and friends. Goons from Mayor Bloomberg held their signs and rudely yelled their slogans a few feet away, non-stop. Reminded me of the recount thugs in Florida, and how the power tipped that day.

Onto the LID endorsement and before he arrived, discussion turned to Why Freddy. The divine City Councilwoman Tish James talked about Bloomberg's strong-arming development schemes, without concessions to affordability, community participation or a real feeling for small business and the working class. A District Leader mentioned the same underlying lack of participation by citizenry and parents in education and government with Bloomberg, generally.

Freddy then spoke with a sincere and informed appreciation of the good the office of mayor can accomplish. I am convinced he is a better choice for New York City.

All this after Marty Markowitz endorsed Mike Bloomberg and his real estate development deals, also Monday, without surprise. The mayor is using a sense of inevitability that we must fight through.
